What's a Heart to do?

Hello,

Ok, so I've had these beads/charms....things for quite a while and I just don't know what to do with them!

Well, I'll probably look at them a few more times before I try something. Oh well, just wanted to share some pretty beads with you!

He's a Stud, She's a...

Hello!

A quick book review for a loverly book I finished...this month? I don't know, goodreads keeps track of that for me. ;)

Anyways, here is the book.

He's a Stud, She's a Slut, and 49 Other Double Standards Every Woman Should Know, by Jessica Valenti
Copyright © 2008 by Seal Press
Here is my review from goodreads.com
-----I really liked this book for a number of reasons. Things still aren't so great and a lot needs to change in society and mindsets and this book unabashedly says this. I really enjoyed her writing style(swearing, humor, sarcasm, oh my!). She made this book informative, maddening and yet hopeful. A lot of times, when I read books like this I just get really angry and completely devoid of hope that things will/can change. This book is informative about some truly horrible and mind-bogglingly unjust practices and double standards that are very much real today (and it's 2015, so really people, really?!). And yes it made me very mad because like I said, unjust and horrible, but the tone of the book didn't leave me bitter. Instead it left me with new ways of thinking, and ways that I personally can start to make a change. Definitely recommend.-----

Shelving and Shifting

Hello!

Ok, as promised my bookshelves as they were. I don't buy a lot of books now (I'm a library gal) but when I did get some really great deals at the library book sale or a thrift store, I came home and looked for a place to put the book. Well I ran out of places.

I decided that I would keep only the books I know I liked or that I still wanted to read. (although the books I decided to give away still haven't left the house...one step at a time, right?) So once I had cleared a couple of cubbies, I decided to shake things up.

I had always organized my books alphabetically by author's last name. I had tried to do it by genre a few years ago and it was madness, madness I say! But, alphabetically just felt too blah, so I went back to a genre sorting system...of sorts.

Here is my non-fiction shelf....the far right contains my IKEA books....aren't they gorgeous! ;)
I apologize for the poor quality. It was at night and I needed the flash. This shelf is my classics shelf.
As I'm sure you can tell, this is the Twilight shelf, with some L.O.T.R. thrown in for good measure. (and apparently these pictures were taken in March)
This is the short story/poetry/play shelf.
Ahh, the romance novel shelf. Can you tell that the red vase is in the shape of a heart? Appropriate, no?

Hmm, what to call this shelf? Um, modern fiction? Oh, and my little ant of course!
This is one of my Children's lit shelves.

In addition to organizing by genre, I decided to try new ways of putting the books on the shelves. See classics, twilight, romance and modern fic. For some shelves this helped me put more books on one shelf and it looks pretty.
The new shelves will be coming in a couple of days.

And Deep Breath In 1, 2, 3....

Hello!

Well now that I've turned in the essay (that I may or may not have forgotten about) I can take a couple of deep breaths.

And I just wanted to give a random update as well (not sure you care, but hey, it's my blog, right?). I just started a new book (third in a series) and it is amazing. I will definitely share this puppy with y'all!

And what a lovely segue to my next bit of news. The past two weekends were quite awesome because some wonderful friends...more like family, came in from Mississippi [where they moved when they abandoned me....but I'm not blaming anyone, nope, no sirree bob....anyways] for a  wonderful visit and to have some crafty fun! I'll share pics of what we made soon.

Hmm, what else is new......that actually might be it. Oh, wait, I do have one technical update. I figured out how to change my favicon (the little image in the tab beside my blog's name). I'm still working on other changes, so hush hush for now.

Ok, well that's about all that's new. Here are some older pics.

The weather I'd love to have right about now.... mais, c'est la vie....
Pansies! Oh, such chipper little flowers! ........these are pansies, aren't they?
Ok, I know these are poppies! I LOVE poppies! They just make me smile.

Ok, well I guess that's it for today. This weekend I'll try to get some posts together to show the changes in my bookshelves (of which I need many, many more...)

Candy and Changes

Hello,

Just wanted to show you some earrings I made for myself around Christmas last year...two years ago? I saw the design in my local bead shop. (have I already posted these earrings?)

I used glass beads for the candy and little flower beads for the wrapper bits. After I made the first couple of pairs, I started looking at other beads as potential candies. I think squares and rectangles would be cute.

I also wanted to tell you guys about some changes coming to the blog, hopefully soon. Since I'm still doing research (and I'm not totally sure things will turn out the way I want) I don't want to give too much away.  ;)

My bookshelves have also undergone some alterations (mostly I was running out of room, so I had to maximize my space). Those will come in separate posts.

Bedazzled Bauble

Hi!
As promised, a big...or small departure from my old earring pattern.

As you can see, these are way different than my older designs. I found these beads at a bead show and I fell in LOVE. And I'm really quite pleased with the design. Now, to be honest, I can't tell if I like this style because it's super simple, which I'm very into right now, or because it means way less work for me? Let's go with simplicity ;)
So, just the sparkly bead, a small spacer because it felt unfinished w/o. Oh and the new hooks were purchased at the same bead show. They're wonderful, really!

What's Black, White and Red all over?

Hi!
Some new earrings! I made these guys a LONG time ago. So long ago that I can't remember where I bought the beads.......maybe Michael's?

Ok, so obviously the beads are different, but I also used gold and silver hardware. I personally love silver and very, very rarely wear gold, but I know some people like it.
So these beads follow a pattern I was working with early on. Small bead(s) on ends, spacer, Main bead, spacer and small bead(s) to finish. I've moved away from this pattern, but I still like it. Of course, as I look at these I'm noticing that they're crooked and I didn't twist the gold wire...

Tomorrow I'll show you guys a new design that really deviates from this pattern.

Rain Withdrawal

Hello,

The other day, on my way to work, it started to sprinkle. I was super excited because this past winter has been sorely lacking the rainy weather I love.

So I thought I'd share some pics of the last time it rained.

At the time of this picture, there wasn't much action with the poppies, but now it's amazing!

 I love rain drop shots!
I mean, I really love them!

Past-a the Pasta

Hello,

I was just looking through old photos and found this. I made it last summer and I was so proud of it that I had to take a pic.

It's my version of an Alfredo sauce. If I remember correctly I just used whole milk and Parmesan cheese and seasoned it with salt and pepper. I wanted to be a little healthy, so I added some frozen peas. Something green, right?

Not to brag, but it was very tasty. I think I might try and get this down to an actual recipe, but I like winging it too.

Lazy Sunday

Hi everyone!

Just wanted to share a bit of my lazy day today. I went outside to take some pictures while the weather was nice.

The plum blossoms are blooming and they're just so pretty.
When I was taking pics, the bees were very buzzzzzzzy....
I can't remember what kind of fruit tree this is. I trimmed it back a couple of years ago, but I guess it's not quite done blooming. Anyways, the flowers make me smile.
 A close up.
 Our little Lilies coming up.
The apple is a Pink Lady. They're now my favorite! They have a sweet and tart taste and they're soooo crispy. The granola is from a cooking show and it's so yummy!
This is not a book for fun. This is very much a school book that I'm slogging through. I'll try to give a brief review when I finish.
I LOVE this picture! I was on the couch and Lils was on the window sill basking in the sun. Not to gush too much, but isn't she such a beautiful kitty. I actually think this would be a loverly picture to have framed.
Anyways, I hope you all had a lovely Sunday too!

This month is going to be a busy month. My mom and I are going to hang with some good friends from out of town (YAY!) and school is promising to get busy...ier....and to that I say, eek! Hopefully you have something fun happening this month, especially if there's stress on the horizon.
Well, happy March everyone!
