Simple Things

Hello all,

A simple moment in nature.

This was last Friday evening. As I was coming home I saw the sunset and thought it was beautiful. When I got home I took a picture to capture the moment and remind me to take a deep breath and smile.
I hope it will do the same for you.

The menagerie grows

Hello all!
At work we had a fun little gift exchange and here are the beauties I went home with. They now live with my Moose planter, my terra cotta pig, and my little rock ant (pictures of the bunch will be coming!)

I love all these guys! Thanks for visiting and hope to see you again soon!
p.s. I tried the hot chocolate powder with coffee. It was delicious. A post on my concoction will follow (hopefully soon!)

Care of Kathy

Hello all!
These earrings are so pretty (please take special note of the color combinations), but I did not make them. Kathy of Kabobbing Cards had that pleasure.
Although I will have had a hand in them in the end; she said they're too long. Too long, is there such a thing?

The color is provided by beautiful Swarovski crystals. I'll have to show you some earrings I've made with Swarovski crystals. They're just so shiny. I believe the charms are from our local bead shop.
Thanks for visiting and hope to see you again soon!

Belated but filled with Cheer!

Hello all!
Yes, I know it's the 27th not the 25th, but what are those? They're just numbers and I'm a cautious rebel.
So, a very very merry unchristmas tooooo-oooooo you! (Did anyone else hear the Mad Hatter singing in their head?)
Anyways, I hope you all had a wonderful holiday and that everyone was safe! I have learned a valuable lesson: don't work a full day after a holiday, if you work at all!
Ok well a little friend has something to say:

Picked this little guy up at Michael's a couple of years ago. He's so cute!
Well, I hope you all have a good weekend. Glad you stopped by and hope to see you soon!

A little Bauble Cheer!

Hello all!
Sorry for the long wait, and I had been pretty good about posting, drat! This past week I took finals so now I am officially on winter break! No school for weeks! I've already got a pile of books from the library and I have more on hold, ahhhhhhhhh, that's the life.
So this past weekend I was amidst the mad shopping rush, well not the truly mad rush. I did not step foot in a mall! I now only need one present and then I am done. I also brought in the gifts for my co-workers today and I'm very happy to report that they were well received (it wasn't until just now that I realized I should have taken pictures of the gifts in their festive bags, oh well).

So, moving on to earrings. Here are the three Christmas earrings I made last year. I saw the designs in my local bead shop and tried my hand at duplicating them. I think it turned out successfully!
I'll be including close ups  of the tree later, probably tomorrow, because they came out blurry.
What do you think?

I used our Christmas tree as a backdrop. We went and picked our tree a couple weekends ago. It was actually very fun; there was almost a foot of snow! And who didn't bring her camera, yes that would be me. Do you cut down your tree? Go to a Christmas tree lot? Use a faux tree? I bought a glittery white tree last year after Christmas (it was like 85% off!) and when I've got all the final decorations completed I'll show you! (Wow this was a very chatty post, hope you don't mind!)
Well, I hope you all are doing well! Thanks for visiting and hope to see you again soon!

Simple Things

Hello all.
I want to try something new around here. I read this article a little while back and it got me thinking that I would like a regular feature. On the Floret Flower Blog every Friday they just post a picture. I'm going to copy that idea, but I'm going to post it on Monday. Hopefully it will make the week look better. So here it goes.

This was the sky on the morning of my finals. It's very beautiful to me and it made me take a deep breath and smile. I hope it will do the same for you.

I've found new blogs!

Hello all!
Well, no earrings today, but some definite goodies!
While avoiding homework and responsibilities in general, I found some new blogs that I'm loving and I rediscovered a blog favorite.
*Disclaimer: all pictures and text belong to their respective blogs.*

Every day I see so many pretty things in the Internet – interiors, art, fashion, styling, decoration … so I’ve decided to create “79 ideas” as a place where to collect all these lovely things which I discover. And that’s why one day after many many years my blog will be the most beautiful blog in the world :)  For sure. So please don’t hesitate to contact me if you find something really beautiful that deserves attention.

about fork & flower
this site is called 'fork & flower', because (as i explained above) i'm passionate about food. so much for the fork, then (hey, i like to eat with my hands, too! but for a real proper dinner, let's stick to the fork, shall we? manners rule the world, it's a fact we can't get around...). for me, it doesn't have to be gault millaut... in fact, i'd always prefer a plate of simple spaghetti al pomodoro to anything fancy-schmancy. but i believe it's the love and care that we add and, last but not least, the attention to detail. if you bring out your favorite silver cutlery for the occasion, light the extra candle and have a bunch of fresh flowers on the dining table - that makes all the difference. so the 'fork' and the 'flower' both are essential ingredients, if you like, for successful entertaining. it's what i live by.
Welcome! My name is Katie. This is my personal blog where you will find plenty of handmade, fashion, and rambly goodness. I'm so glad you are here!

Incandescent Cranberries

Hello all!
Ok, the title might be a little lofty for the earrings, but it sounded so good I couldn't help myself.
These beads are another trusty bead. They are so easy to design with and they look good with pretty much anything you do.

The gold cup spacers are one of my favorites; they help to add a little bit to the earring without adding length, which can be a problem.
Thanks for visiting and hope to see you again soon!

Copper to mix things up

Hello all!
A while back I decided to play around with metals other than silver and gold. I found these beads in my local shop and I loved them so much, but when I got them home it took me a REALLY long time to figure out what to do with them. I finally came up with this design. Oh, and I also decided to use posts instead of fish hooks. The posts are from the same shop and I loved those too.
I guess I just really love these earrings.

Well, what do you think? Thanks for visiting and hope to see you again soon!

It's Beginning to look a lot like Christmas

Hello all!
It's that time of year again. I must admit, once you're no longer a kid waiting to rip the wrapping paper of the mountain of gifts, you start to stress more about buying gifts; but I'm also able to appreciate the feeling of the season. I know that sounds cheesy, but this holiday makes me feel so happy and cheerful! Anyways,  I don't know what your weather is looking like, but ours is quite interesting. I thought I'd share a few photos of how the garden is faring.

This is our mint with a wee bit o' frost.

I'm pretty sure this is sage.

The baby broccoli starting to thaw in the sun.

I'm really hoping the petunias pull through.

I think this is vintage lilac, but I can't quite remember.

I especially like the air bubble in the last picture. Can you see it? Well, whatever your weather is like I hope you're all staying warm and cozy. Today I plan on experimenting with coffee and hot chocolate powder to make a mocha. I'll let you know how it goes!
Thanks for visiting and hope to see you again soon.

Happy Monday!

Hello all!
Sorry, no clever title for these earrings. I'll just let them speak for themselves.
I got these earrings as a gift from one of my mom's friends. She gave me a huge bag of beads and some really cool wire pieces. I'll try to take a picture sometime. Anyways, here they are.
I love these earrings so much! I hope you enjoyed your visit and see you again soon!
